In the heart of Birmingham, amidst the SEC basketball media days, a determined Dawn Staley stood tall, addressing the future of her team without the invaluable Chloe Kitts. But here's where it gets controversial: Staley's unwavering confidence in her squad's ability to adapt and thrive despite significant changes.
Staley, accompanied by a talented trio of Joyce Edwards, Ta'Niya Latson, and Tessa Johnson, laid out their mission for the upcoming season. "Be yourself," she emphasized, acknowledging the unique contributions of each player, especially the irreplaceable Chloe Kitts.

But Staley wasn't just relying on new additions. She had faith in her returning players, especially Maryam Dauda, Adhel Tac, and Joyce Edwards. "Maryam is on fire, Adhel has improved immensely, and Joyce, well, she's the steady rock we need."
The 2024-2025 season saw the Gamecocks finish with an impressive 35-4 record, but it ended with a heart-breaking loss to UConn in the NCAA championship. Edwards, the team's leading scorer, knows the weight of expectation, especially with Kitts' absence.
"It's a collective effort now," Edwards said. "Chloe brought something special, and we all have to step up individually to fill that void. It's a team effort, and we're ready to rise to the challenge."
And this is the part most people miss: Staley's unwavering belief in her team's resilience. Despite losing Kitts, the 2025 SEC tournament MVP, Staley insists her squad won't falter. "We're fearless," she declared. "You won't see us falter. We believe in our system, and we trust our players."
