Ashley Darby's 10-Year Journey: From Newlywed to Single Mom on RHOP | Special Forces Aspirations (2025)

Imagine pouring a decade of your life into the spotlight of reality TV, transforming from a fresh-faced newlywed to a resilient single mom juggling entrepreneurship, singing, and even drag performances—Ashley Darby has navigated that whirlwind journey on The Real Housewives of Potomac, and it's got fans buzzing. But here's where it gets controversial: Could her bold moves on the show be seen as empowering or just plain messy? Stick around, because Ashley's latest confessions might just challenge what you think about fame, friendship, and facing the truth head-on.

It's hard to fathom that Ashley Darby has graced our screens for a full ten years on The Real Housewives of Potomac. Starting as a 26-year-old bride with her natural curls bouncing and playful energy—remember that iconic rooftop moment?—she's now 37, divorced, and raising two incredible sons while living life authentically on her own terms. 'At times, I'm speechless reflecting on this ten-year adventure,' Ashley shared. 'I've built my own home, embraced independence, and opened up about every twist and turn along the way.' As an entrepreneur, vocalist, and drag queen, she thrives amid a cast of vibrant, strong-willed women, but this season felt different without one key player: Karen Huger, who was incarcerated after a 2024 DUI conviction. 'I truly miss my debate partner,' Ashley admitted when discussing what she missed most during filming. 'She always threw in those sharp, witty jabs that kept me on my toes.' Ashley also leaned on Karen's wisdom and unique perspective during tough times. 'So many events unfolded this season where I longed for her take on things,' she noted. And this is the part most people miss—how the absence of a single cast member can shift the entire dynamic of a show, highlighting the unspoken bonds that hold these women together.

Thankfully, Ashley found plenty of sparks with Stacey Rusch to fill the void. When Stacey couldn't verify her divorce from Thiemo Rusch, Ashley didn't hold back during a heated exchange at her Second Bloom Ball. 'From the moment Stacey claimed they had signed the papers, something didn't add up,' Ashley explained. She was caught off guard when what started as a casual chat erupted into a full-blown shouting match. 'I believe she felt exposed and vulnerable, which led her to lash out,' Ashley said. 'You know how it goes—when cornered, people often fight back more fiercely.' This confrontation raises eyebrows: Was Ashley being a vigilant friend, or crossing into meddlesome territory? It's a juicy debate that could polarize viewers—some might see her as protective, others as overly confrontational. What do you think? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

Ashley visited the Decider studio to chat about Monique Samuels' comeback, which rookie deserves the 'Potomac Rookie of the Year' award, and her surprising ambition to appear on Special Forces: World's Toughest Test—a grueling competition where contestants endure extreme physical and mental challenges, like survival skills and obstacle courses, testing limits in ways that make traditional reality TV look tame.

DECIDER: Celebrating your 10th season on Real Housewives of Potomac is a huge milestone. What's the vibe like for you?

ASHLEY DARBY: I'm often left speechless pondering this decade-long ride. I'm in a whole new chapter of life. I began at 26, with my wild, curly 'fro, playfully clinging to Robyn on that rooftop. Fast forward 11 years, and I'm a proud mom to two wonderful boys, divorced, owning my home, and charting my path independently while sharing the journey across ten seasons. It's truly mind-blowing to reflect on.

This season marked your debut without Karen Huger. What stood out as the biggest void?

Honestly, I longed for my verbal sparring partner. Karen's knack for those subtle, snarky comments was something I cherished—it pushed me to step up my game, laughing all the while. It honed my edge. Her vibe was irreplaceable. Truly, numerous developments this season left me wishing for her insights, to be frank.

Have you connected with Karen lately?

Only via texts, not face-to-face. But she's doing well, staying active—that much I know!

Your split from Michael is officially done. How did it feel to close that chapter?

It's a mix of sweet and sour, honestly. I'm grateful for closure and the freedom to move forward. I celebrated at my Second Bloom Ball, dazzling in my gown surrounded by close friends. Yet, the truth is, I still processed the end of our marriage. The divorce wrapped up in February, and we shot the ball in April, so the emotions were still raw. These days, I'm embracing life as Ashley, the solo parent.

On the topic of separations, Stacey mentioned in the premiere that she's reconciled with Thiemo. Gizelle suggested on Watch What Happens Live that they might never have truly parted ways. What's your perspective?

I side with Gizelle here. When Stacey initially shared that divorce papers were signed, it just didn't ring true. She mentioned it happened on Christmas Day, and I thought, 'Alright.' But then she added they were vacationing in Mexico that same day? Red flag alert. I dug deeper, questioning why her divorce wasn't public record like mine—easy to find. It raised serious suspicions for me.

In that face-off at your Second Bloom Ball, Stacey dubbed you 'little imp' and 'messy devil.' Were those the lamest insults thrown your way?

Throwing shade isn't Stacey's forte, plain and simple. 'Imp' had a comical twist, but 'devil'? Been there, heard that—way too cliché. I've been labeled a snake or devil countless times on this show. Come on, get creative! Offer something fresh and clever. Were you shocked by her intense reaction at your event? I suspect she was deeply insecure, aware of being confronted. As we all know, when pushed against the wall, folks swing wildly. In my view, it's a sign of her defensiveness and reluctance to own up.

Between the RHOP newcomers Tia Glover and Angel Massie, who would you crown 'Potomac Rookie of the Year' and why?

I'd hand the title to Tia, no doubt. She skillfully maneuvered through our clashing personalities while confidently asserting her identity. Even in moments of disagreement, I respected her steadfastness.

This season also brings back Monique Samuels! What was your reaction to her return?

I was thrilled Monique rejoined us. For years, I'd urged her comeback, only for her to say it wasn't the moment or match. When it happened, it felt like, 'Ah, there she is—my mischief-making ally!' It's been fantastic.

You're tight with Gizelle. How did you navigate the friction between her and Monique?

That's not my drama to stir. We've all shared history equally—Gizelle's known Monique as long as I have. My bond with Gizelle is just closer. I need to honor their separate connection and let them resolve it themselves.

We adored your stint on Bravo's Love Hotel! How do you view it now?

I cherish those memories from Love Hotel. The guys were great—Ralph is even in New York today, so we might catch up for a platonic drink. It came right before my divorce finalized. I craved time with my ladies: Gizelle, Shannon, and Luann. And wow, Luann schooled me in so many ways over those three weeks—Countess De Lesseps is a master teacher. Those women guided me as I stepped into singledom.

If forced to choose between competing on The Traitors or Dancing With The Stars, which and why?

I figured you'd bring up Special Forces! I'm campaigning for that. But between those, I'd pick Dancing With The Stars. I'm obsessed with it and think I'd excel.

Why the push for Special Forces?

I'm hooked on adrenaline rushes. I'd relish tackling those intense, hands-on challenges. The only hurdle? Mastering breath-holding—water isn't my element, but I'm training just in case the opportunity knocks.

Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sunday nights at 8/7c on Bravo.

What sparks debate for you in Ashley's story? Do you see her as a trailblazer for independent women, or is her directness sometimes too harsh? And ponder this: In an era of social media scrutiny, how much 'mess' should reality stars handle publicly? Share your views below—we'd love to hear agreements or gripes!
